Sports leaders from across East Africa gathered in Kigali for the annual summit focused on regional athletic development and Olympic preparation.
The 2026 East Africa Sports Summit concluded yesterday at the Kigali Convention Centre, bringing together over 200 sports administrators, coaches, and government officials from Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and South Sudan.
The three-day summit focused on collaborative approaches to Olympic preparation, anti-doping education, and the development of regional sporting infrastructure.
Key outcomes included the establishment of a shared East African anti-doping database, a joint bid for the 2030 Commonwealth Youth Games, and a memorandum of understanding on coach exchange programs.
RNOSC President Alice UMULINGA, who chaired the summit, emphasized the importance of regional cooperation: "We are stronger together. When East African nations pool our resources and expertise, we can compete with the best in the world."
The summit also featured workshops on sports governance, athlete welfare, and the use of technology in training and competition analysis.
